First shown during the Frieze Projects, London, curated by Raphael Gygax, 2017. Marc Bauer series "Tracing Identities, Peckham" focuses on an area of South London. Peckham is a peculiar area: it has been depicted in the 1990’s like one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in London. Today, due to gentrification, this image has shifted to a trendy and upcoming neighbourhood. Bauer was interested in how these changes have happened: what impact have they had on the youth living in Peckham? How has the youth there experienced them? The work retraces the history of Peckham through tabloid newspapers. Marc Bauer also worked closely together with a youth group called Peckham Platform holding workshops in which he addressed themes of identity, gender and community with residents aged between 13 and 19 years old.
