Das Bukett (La fragilité des fleurs), Nr. 3, 2012
Oil on canvas
170 x 130 cm (66 7/8 x 51 1/8 inch)

At first sight, the new large-scale painting “Das Bukett (La fragilité des fleurs), Nr. 3” (2012) shows a classic still life of a bouquet. Dead flowers hang down and correspond to the French translation of the genre: nature morte. The vase becomes a humorous element after being turned upside down. The dead but still colorful flowers hand down. Yet even in death the flowers are still extravagantly beautiful. Valérie Favre contrasts the positive cultural symbolism of flowers with the negative notion of decease; not as a critique but rather as a playful interaction with the opposites of beauty and death.
