Christoph Hefti is a Swiss artist and textile designer whose multidisciplinary practice bridges fashion, craft, and contemporary art. Born in Lausanne in 1967, Hefti studied textile design in Zurich and later earned an MA in Fashion from Central Saint Martins in London. He began his career with Jean-Paul Gaultier in Paris and spent 13 years as a creative assistant at Dries Van Noten in Antwerp, where he was responsible for designing and developing printed fabrics. Since then, he has collaborated with various fashion houses, including Lanvin, Balenciaga, Acne Studios, and Mugler.
Parallel to his fashion career, Hefti has developed a body of work that encompasses hand-knotted rugs, video installations, and performance art. His fascination with traditional crafts led him to Nepal, where he creates limited editions of rugs that blend folklore, mysticism, and surreal imagery.
In 2023, Galerie Peter Kilchmann presented Hefti's first solo exhibition in Paris, titled Eyes Rolling Down the Road. The exhibition transformed the gallery space into an immersive environment featuring hand-knotted rugs, ceramic light sculptures, and textile installations. Works like The Deer and Volcano reflect his exploration of nature, ritual, and the unseen, blending mythic symbolism with contemporary craftsmanship. This exhibition marked a pivotal moment in Hefti’s artistic journey, highlighting his transition from fashion to a more expansive, multidisciplinary art practice.
Hefti's work is included in the collections of the Swiss National Museum and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
