Overview
Originally conceived and premiered at the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, the project now enters a new chapter in London. This progression from one of Latin America’s leading institutions to one of Europe’s foremost cultural centres underscores the growing international recognition of González’s singular contribution to contemporary art.

Bringing together over 150 works spanning more than six decades, the presentation offers an expansive journey through González’s practice — from her early appropriations of mass-media imagery to her powerful reflections on history, politics, and collective memory. For the Barbican, the exhibition has been rethought and expanded, with additional works and a renewed curatorial emphasis highlighting the complexity and lasting relevance of her visual language.

Conceived specifically for the Barbican’s architecture, the exhibition features a bespoke scenography that invites visitors to encounter González’s work within a new spatial and emotional rhythm. This London chapter situates her practice within a broader international conversation on images, power, and memory — themes that resonate with particular urgency today.

The London presentation forms a pivotal stage in this major institutional tour, which will continue at the Astrup Fearnley Museet, Oslo, from 12 June 2026. Together, these venues reflect the sustained and expanding global resonance of González’s work across continents.
