The first solo exhibition with the artist at the gallery in Zurich will be in March 2024.
Eva Nielsen (b. 1983 in Les Lilas, France) is a versatile artist whose artistic practice blurs the boundaries between painting, photography, and screen-printing. Through her collage-like works, Nielsen explores the possibilities of these mediums to create reconstructed perspectives of reality. Her images defy easy classification, as they combine elements of both photography and painting, challenging the conventional relationship between the two.
Nielsen's artistic constructions are intentionally artificial and nonsensical, pushing the limits of both photography and painting. While photography is traditionally regarded as a direct document of reality, capturing what is in front of the lens, Nielsen's approach subverts this notion. By manipulating and layering images, she creates landscapes that transcend the boundaries of time and place, merging personal memories, dreamlike idylls, and elements of utopian imagination.
With Insolare, Eva Nielsen takes on optical and hydrogeological phenomena, combining them with exposure to light (insolation), a technique used in screen printing.
