Uwe Wittwer: Das Imaginäre Haus (Group show)

Gewerbemuseum, Winterthur, Switzerland

Overview
In the historic heart of Winterthur, the Gewerbemuseum Winterthur mounts exhibitions which explore the points at which design, art and everyday life intersect. The museum shows the familiar in unfamiliar ways, asks pertinent questions, provides startling, multisensory insights into current topics and offers easy access to the world of materials.

The painter Uwe Wittwer, the ceramist Aiko Watanabe and the poet Jürg Halter are engaged in a stimulating artistic interchange. The starting point of their collaboration is the Japanese cult film “Tales of the Pale and Silvery Moon After the Rain” (Ugetsu monogatari, 1953) by Kenji Mizoguchi, which tells the story of a potter and his family in the 16th century.

Inspired by this work, the three artists each develop a personal vision of the film using their individual creative talents. Thus the watercolours and digital prints of Uwe Wittwer (*1954/CH), the stoneware objects of Aiko Watanabe (*1971/JP) and the short poems of Jürg Halter (*1980/CH) come together to form a creative dialogue about this undisputed masterpiece of cinema history.

The exhibition is a collaboration with the Musée Ariana in Geneva.
