Overview

Renaissance Paintings Reloaded presents a new body of work by Swiss artist Andy Denzler, continuing his ongoing exploration of painting, memory and the representation of the human figure. Building on his recent Spectral Paintings series, Denzler turns to compositions by Renaissance masters such as Titian and Tintoretto as source material, reinterpreting historical paintings through his distinctive painterly language. Rather than treating these works as fixed historical images, he approaches them as part of a living visual archive whose meanings continue to shift over time.

The exhibition brings together new large- and medium-scale paintings alongside a selection of works on paper. Through layered applications of paint, expressive brushwork and his characteristic horizontal blurring technique, Denzler simultaneously reveals and obscures his subjects, creating images that oscillate between clarity and dissolution. His works examine the relationship between historical painting and contemporary visual culture while reflecting on themes of collective memory, emotion and the persistence of images.
